About Stars & Stalls

Stars & Stalls is an independent publication, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by MICHELIN. We refer to MICHELIN Guide distinctions only to describe where a restaurant is listed, and our badges use our own design.

Prices are checked against published menus — usually the restaurant's own website or menu, sometimes another published source — with the date we checked and a link to the source. If a restaurant doesn't publish a price, we leave it blank rather than guess. Star status follows the current MICHELIN Guide; we are not affiliated with Michelin.

We only show a restaurant photo when a free-licence source (Wikimedia Commons, Unsplash or Pexels) genuinely identifies it as that restaurant, its building or its food. Where no such photo exists but the restaurant is in a well-documented building (a hotel, tower or historic house), we may show that building, clearly labelled "The building". Failing that, we may show the street, square or quay the restaurant is on, clearly labelled "The area": that photo shows the neighbourhood, not the restaurant, and we check the location against the restaurant's own published address. Otherwise you'll see our striped placeholder: we never use generic food photos or lookalikes. City, region and guide photos show the place itself. Every photo is credited on the image and listed with its author, licence and source on the photo credits page.

Some links on this site — for food tours, cooking classes (e.g. GetYourGuide, Viator) and hotels (e.g. Booking.com) — are affiliate links. If you book through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Restaurant booking links go direct to the restaurant unless marked. Paid or featured listings will always be labelled. This never affects prices we report.
